Copper Square Tile Backsplash
Torrance
About This Project
This kitchen backsplash in a Torrance home used a warm copper-toned square ceramic tile to create a rich, warm-lit surface between the black glass upper cabinets and the white lower countertop. The copper finish on this tile is achieved through a metallic glaze rather than actual metal content, which means it does not oxidize or require any special maintenance, but it does respond beautifully to the warm LED under-cabinet lighting that was already in place. The square format in a 4x4 grid pattern was set with a tight 1/16-inch joint and a warm beige grout that blends with the lighter values in the tile face rather than creating contrast. The wall behind the range required a thorough cleaning and a coat of oil-based primer before tiling because the previous backsplash had absorbed years of cooking residue that a standard latex primer would not seal adequately.
